In a conversation with a friend a little while ago, I asked her whether she thought it was possible to have more than one soul mate in a lifetime?
And also, whether she thought it possible to have a soul mate that you will never marry, perhaps because of timing, circumstances, beliefs?
It's a difficult question. One that I think about... a lot.
Tonight, I asked another friend, and her answer made my heart happy.
That even though we all have a deep heart desire for a human soul mate who truly understands us, there's an even deeper desire.
One that can only be filled by Someone who created us.
Jesus is our Ultimate Soul Mate.

I think it's a really interesting question. It probably depends on how you define soul mate. In a world marred with sin, even the most "perfect" soul mate is a sinner and so, even with a soul mate, life is not perfect (though in the throes of love and passion it may seem like it is). :)
I think you can have more than one soul-matish life partner and be extremely happy in both marriages because I know people have done it. Elisabeth Elliot for instance.
And, you might be filled with longing for what cannot be and mourn your loss by refusing to marry an apparent "soul mate" because of conflicting beliefs, but would that situation have ever ended on a happy note anyway? If the answer is no, then you have to believe that he/she was not truly a soul mate to begin with. It just seemed that way.
It's comforting to know that God is sovereign.
